Left fielder Monte Irvin smacked 2 homeruns and Ned Garver completed the game

without help from the bullpen as the Cape Canaveral Rockets destroyed the

Delaware Destroyers. by a score of 18 to 6 at Sportsman's Park.

Irvin had a great evening at the plate.  He had the crowd cheering his every

move.  He banged out a single in the 1st inning, cleared the bases with a

Grand Slam homerun in the 4th inning and clubbed a solo home run in the 5th

inning.  Cape Canaveral lit up the scoreboard in the 4th inning when they had

7 runs on 4 hits and the 6th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 3 hits.

Cape Canaveral had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6

separate innings.

The victory was credited to Garver(1-0) who went the distance, allowing 6

runs. Allie Reynolds(0-1) took the loss.  He allowed 3 homeruns in 4 innings

of work.

'Actually, I didn't feel that comfortable at the plate tonight' Irvin said

after the game.  'Despite that, I'm happy with the results!
