History was made
in Kansas City as Saul Rogovin(1-1) tossed a no-hitter
and
the Kansas City A's defeated the Long Island Giants by the score of 2 to
0.
Rogovin was
obviously at the top of his game as he set the Long Island batters
down like so many
dominoes. He walked 2 Long Island
batters. The Kansas
City players and
coaches started to leave Rogovin alone with his thoughts
after the game
reached the 7th inning. By the time the
9th inning rolled
around, you could
hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an
explosion after
every out. Kansas City managed only 6
hits on the night.
Billy Pierce(1-1) was the loser.
He surrendered 6 hits and 2 walks in 8
innings. 'Not in my wildest dreams did I think this
would happen!' Rogovin
said as he stood
at home plate to salute the fans. 'Once
I got into the
later innings, I
decided to challenge every hitter, and that turned out to be
the right
decision!'
