Shortstop Granny Hamner hit one over the fence and had 2 RBI as the Long

Island Giants topped the Kansas City A's by a score of 7 to 2 at Forbes

Field.

 

Kansas City was unable to recover after Long Island went ahead in the bottom

of the 5th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.  Hamner led off the inning for Long

Island when he drew a walk.  Vic Raschi came next and he laid down a

sacrifice bunt.  Gene Woodling then bombed a two-run dinger.  Long Island had

11 hits for the game and Kansas City had 7. 

 

The win was credited to Raschi(1-0) who went 8 innings allowing 2 runs. Lew

Burdette(0-2) was given the loss.  He gave up 3 runs and 4 hits in 5 innings.
